One of the most modern methods of diagnosing vertigo is videonystagmography (VNG) which allows to assess function of the labyrinth. This examination is an essential element in the diagnosis of vertigo and balance disorders of various etiologies. VNG is the registration of eye movements. A special set of glasses with camera are used to carry out the test. Nystagmus movements are sent to a computer, then visualized in the form of graphs on the monitor. During the examination, we perform tests in sequence: spontaneous, oculomotorius, positional, Dix- hallpikes, swivel chair test, caloric test, that is supplying air to the ear canals, which should cause nystagmus as a result of thermal shock.



Preparation for examination:
- the examination should be carried out three hours after last meal
- the person should not wear makeup
- the ear canals should be thoroughly cleaned of earwax
- four days before the examination, sedatives should be discontinued
- the patient should not drive a car after the test
- examination lasts about 1,5 hour
- the control test should be performed under similar conditions
